Weekend Open Bar: A Galaxy’s Worth of Well Tidings!

merry life day or whatever

I’m not going to lie. I completely forgot that today was Friday. I’m all, all, all turned around this week. Losing track of holidays, teeth, children, teeth, what day of the week it is, and where in the space-time continuum I’m currently located. So apologies!, for getting this Weekend’s Open Bar up a bit late. For some reason I thought tomorrow was Friday? And that my teeth went in the pot roast? But that’s neither here nor there. I’m turned around, primarily, because today is goddamn Christmas. And a good goddamn hello to many people’s good goddamn savior, the goddamn Son of The OMNIVERSE! Welcome Jimmy Crimbus! Of Betelgeuse!

Tuesday Afternoon Commute: Status Check from Space-Ship Omega

status check

Oh shit! I’ve been gone for a minute. Went deep, deep into a Star Wars-induced blackout last week. Then every time I began to peak my head out, someone wanted to know: what did I think, how did I feel, was it as good as the originals? (c’mon now!), how many times have you seen it? (three!), how many times do you want to see it? (seven, at least), when are you seeing it again? (tonight, by myself!) did it meet your expectations (my logical ones, not my emotional ones), on and on. And I realized, in that moment, that I really just wanted to digest the entire thing by myself. Or rather, not on the internet. Writ large.

But I’m back! This is Tuesday Afternoon Commute! Semester break finally begins for me, today. And it’s mere days until Christmas. So let’s hang out. What’s on your mind, what’s on your plate this week?

Monday Morning Commute: For my ally is The Force

For my ally is The Force

It’s time, folks. The Force is almost upon us. And after waiting for years for this Grand Revival to arrive, a surreal feeling of serenity has struck me. This desired event is so soon that it borders on incomprehensible. It has devolved out of an Upcoming Event and into some Abstract Potentiality that I cannot come to grips with. In a little over three days, on Thursday at 7pm, I’m going to be experiencing a new Star Wars.

This is Monday Morning Commute. Where I share what I’m looking forward to during a given week, and then you return in kind with your own happenings. This week is obvious: The Force Awakens and Everything Else. But fuck, I’ll list all of my anticipations for you.

Monday Morning Commute: The Jackboots Are Upon Us

MMC

Monday Morning Commute! And today, I commuted, on this Monday, as I began the last full week of the semester! I shake my fist at our Martian OverLord, Obliteratus. I shake my fist at him, and his promise to deliver us to his Mistress, Entropy. Someday! Sure! But for this week, I shall celebrate. The ending semester! The upcoming break!

Weekend Open Bar: We Are What We Pretend To Be

we are what we pretend to be

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be, friends. But let me tell you, I’m not futzing pretending to be excited for this Weekend. I am bonafide stoked it’s Friday. What a goddamn week. Coming back to campus and attempting to teach classes after Thanksgiving Break is like attempting to stand in the fifth round of a fight against in-his-prime Anderson Silva.

For the students, and myself.

Eyes glazed. Lethargic. The world spinning. Not really sure how we’ve gotten this far and not sure how we’re going to make it to the final bell.

After today, I got one more week of classes to go. However, the idea of that one last week stresses me the futz out. But I’ve got the weekend. And so we have the Weekend Open Bar. Pull up a stool, friends. Let us hang out for the next two days. Share what we’re going to do be doing during this liminal state – both after and before grinding away our existence.

Monday Morning Commute: Life Is What It Makes Of You

life is what it makes of you

Hey, friends. Come in, but come in quickly. It’s cold outside, and I don’t want the fire from the wood stove leaking out into the unforgiving late Autumn atmosphere. But I’m glad you’re joining me on this Monday. What am I up to? Oh! This here is Monday Morning Commute, the weekly column where I share with you what’s doing down in my life. I cave in admittance to the various songs, shows, books, and video games that I’m clinging to in an attempt to Successfully Surf the Life Existential.

Thanksgiving Week Commute: Drunk On Turkey and Stuffed With Love

halo~

Ah, yeah! It’s Thanksgiving Week! Which means the most glorious span of six weeks or so is kicking off! Holiday season! Days upon days of getting fat, fiddling with candy canes (interpret that as you will), getting fat, drinking with friends, getting fat, playing video games, and this year, seeing TheWarStars Movie over and over again!

Typically we rock a Monday Morning Commute here, but what the fuck. Let’s go nuts. A lot of people are already off, a lot of people are going to be off, and those who aren’t getting any time off are obviously welcome to use this place as a refuge.

Art: “Greetings From Vault 111” by Michael B. Myers Jr.

‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ delayed until August 23; I may be done with ‘Fallout 4’ by then

deus ex

I was sort of shocked when UbiFolk announced that the new Deus Ex was dropping early next year. The game had just been revealed, these sort of AAA games take forever to develop, you know, that happy horseshit. Seemed…too soon. And! Apparently it was, since the game has been delayed.

Tuesday Afternoon Commute: Debugging The Omniverse

debugging the omniverse

Man! Been a minute since I opened my door here on the Space-Ship Omega. Specifically because when I’ve had time, I’ve been wandering the Wasteland, post-Vault Door. But how about when I haven’t been? I’ve been grading papers, hanging out with the Wife and friends, grading papers, working. And I don’t know about you folks, but I’ve noticed something.
