David Lynch is a consummate artist. His matchless cinematic pursuit of capturing the wild, weird world that he sees around himself has been something to behold for many cineastes. He’s been pumping out fascinating works for well over thirty year, and when a new Lynch film hits the theater or the internet, it’s worth heeding, at the very least. Sure, it won’t be for everyone nor will it ever be (which is typically the case for an artist truly motivated by a personal vision rather than popularity and universal clarity), but it’s safe to say that everyone will witness something out of the ordinary–even when he’s chronicling places and experiences that have seemed ordinary before Lynch turned his gaze on it.  And his new short film/documentary “Idem Paris” is no different. SyFy, Ridley Scott, and Frank Spotnitz are adapting PKD’s novel Man in the High Castle for TV. Said book is glorious alt-history, wrapped around mind-bending ideas about reality. Which, I suppose is a bit obvious given the author. What do you PKD fans think? Me? Color in the circle that says “Caff-Pow has no idea how to feel about this.”

Welcome, friends. This is Monday Morning Commute, the column that details the various music, movies, books, and general chicanery that we as a collective are basking in on a given week. I am currently typing this bad boy from the empty confines of a general writing workshop I run at State University Y. This lovely University that employs me is one of the few actually open in the greater Boston Area after this weekend’s blizzard, which means that I have trekked onto campus for one meager hour (all of my other students cancelled).
