‘Star Trek Discovery’ is arriving September 24 but does anyone care at this point?
Not trying to be particularly snarky, here. Do people care about the premiere of Star Trek Discovery anymore? Between the seemingly endless delays, the loss of showrunner Bryan Fuller, and the majority of the show being banished to a esoteric streaming service, the show faces serious challenges. At the very least.
Tuesday Evening Drive: Maui
Hello, friends! Denizens of the Space-Ship Omega! This is Monday Morning Commute, by way of Tuesday Evening. Why the tardiness? Why the general silence on the blog?
I’m glad you (didn’t) ask! I just blitz’d a weekend in Maui for a best friend’s wedding, and well. Coming back to reality after two days in paradise requires efforting on several levels. Readjusting to timezones, readjusting to the perils and praxis of regular life, yadda, yadda.
But I can’t complain.
I’ve discovered the answer to a question I’ve been asking myself since last year, when I knew I would be going to Maui. Is thirty hours of travel in the span of four days, and thousands of dollars for said travel, and missing teaching two incredibly intensive summer classes, worth forty-eight hours in paradise, for a best friend’s wedding?
Unequivocally, yes.
But this, right here! It’s the weekly column where we share what we’re up to, on a given week! I’ll share my own findings, as I rattle around in the befuddled muck of my consciousness, trying to figure out not just what I’m up to, but what day it is, what time it is, this and that, this and that.
‘Sherlock’ creators developing ‘Dracula’ TV show and here’s hoping it doesn’t…suck, lolright
I really enjoyed the first couple of Sherlock seasons. To the point that, despite not liking the back half of the show, I’m excited its creators are going to be adapting Dracula in much the same fashion.
‘Avengers: Infinity War’ scene will feature over 30 characters, splash page porn incoming
Every goddamn “event” comic has at least one splash page with like infinity heroes throwing down against the baddies. So it makes sense that Avengers: Infinity War, the cinematic equivalent of an event comic, will be replicating this shit on the shiny screen.
I cannot fucking wait.
‘Wonder Woman 2’ already being written by Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns
It’s glad to see DC finally not fucking around on something awesome. Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns are already writing the treatment for Wonder Woman 2.
‘The Dark Tower’ movie is officially a sequel to the books, which most guessed already
Apparently, most fans of the Dark Tower books suspected that the upcoming movie was a sequel to the series. Well, now it’s like official or something get stoked or something I don’t give a fuck! I have no emotional investment in this upcoming train wreck.
NASA has found evidence of 10 new Earth-sized planets with conditions for water
NASA has found 10 new (as in newly found, not out of the package) Earth-sized planets. But wait, there is more! These planets sport conditions ideal for water.
Charlie Booker’s ‘Black Mirror’ getting book anthology series, depression goes analog
Charlie Booker’s Black Mirror is a stark take on our dystopian future-present. It’s incisive, wonderful, and depressing as fuck. If you’ve spent time wondering how else you can get Booker’s insight into our present techno-rot, having finished the series, well good fucking news. The show is being adapted into a book anthology series.
David Fincher’s Netflix series ‘Mindhunter’ is dropping October 13
I keep forgetting that there is a Fincher series rumbling down the gluttonous pipes of the internet to Netflix. Well, it’s even got a date now. October 13. Somewhat related, I also keep forgetting it was responsible for early House of Cards. None the less, what I believe is Fincher’s second Netflix offering is arriving this October.
James Mangold directing ‘Disorder’ remake with script by ‘Sicario’ writer Taylor Sheridan
James Mangold and Taylor Sheridan are teaming up to remake a French-Belgian movie from 2015, Disorder. That’s all you really need to know. Two fucking rad dudes teaming up. Get excited for this, slime.
