Rob Liefeld and Robert Kirkman Team-Up For Comic ‘The Infinite’

Robert Kirkman is best known these days for giving the world The Walking Dead. It is by no means his only work, but it is the name they drop whenever they reference him. Rob Liefeld is known for giving the world anatomically impossible works of Awesome, and human beings with cloven feet. Together, they’re going to give the world The Infinite.

Shane Black Says Iron Man 3 Is Going To Be A Tom Clancy-Esque Thriller.

Iron Man 2 was fun. It was also forgettable, and it strove so hard to integrate into a larger universe than it ended up getting lost in its own cross-marketing bullshit. Recently named director and apparent writer of the third flick, Shane Black, addressed all of this at the Omaha Film Festival this past weekend.

Deadpool Team-Up With Charlie Sheen Is Gnarly.

Since the Charlie Sheen meltdown began, I was pretty sure that the most obvious thing for him to do was a buddy action flick with Nic Cage. If you follow the Omega, you know why this should be stunningly apparent: Nic Cage is fucking amazing, and also fucking insane.

But I wasn’t thinking broad enough. Also awesome would be a Charlie Sheen team-up with motherfucking Deadpool. Thankfully, Ben Christian and Cory Smith dreamed where I slept.

Hit the jump for a gnarly combination of insanity.

Images & Words – Joe the Barbarian #8

[images & words is the comic book pick-of-the-week at OL. equal parts review and diatribe, the post highlights the most memorable/infuriating/entertaining book released that wednesday]

Congratulations, Joe the Barbarian! Not only did you beat Jonah Hex and Sweet Tooth in this week’s triple-threat comics cage match, but with your final issue you’ve become one of my all-time favorite limited series. You’ve earned a spot in my Best Of list and, if there’s any damn justice in the world, comics history as well.

So how did you do it, Joe? How did you never tire while running for eight issues over the course of a year? Brandishing a tale of a hallucinating youth in the midst of insulin-shock, you easily could’ve devolved into incoherent drivel. Your parallel narratives (wandering through a house looking for sugar and traversing the most hidden recesses of childhood imagination) could have slugged each other out: DOUBLE KO!!!  And yet, with each appearance you became more effective.

More affective.

So how did you do it? It was, beyond a coffee-stained shadow of a doubt, that intangible, unquantifiable quality for which all art should aspire. It’s that warm little nagging at the forefront of excitement, the pinch on your ass that makes you giddy, that informs the reader/viewer/listener that the artists at work care. Necessarily, this quality defies definition and rears itself only in terms of gut-instinct. But it’s undeniable. Unshakable. Motherfucking unstoppable.

For lack of a better word, let’s call this quality heart.

No seriously maybe these are legitimate plot points for The Dark Knight Rises. Pinky swear. Maybe. Are you interested in the latest possible quasi-spoilers? They’re more of a general premise than anything else. But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

First Official Photo Of Red Skull From ‘Captain America’ Movie.

Ever since the Super Bowl Trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger dropped, my expectations for the movie have been recuperated. Probably not the best precedent to be set. It’s always better to go in with ground floor anticipation, that way anything can blow your tits off. One of the dopest things about the trailer was Hugo Weaving gettin’ his Red Skull on. So it’s of particular excitement to me that this week’s Entertainment Weekly has the first official photo of him as the Red Faced Prick.

Hit the jump for the photo, and some quasi-spoilerish details.

Marvel’s Shot A Secret ‘Avengers’ Trailer, Featuring The Villain?

It’s almost too fucking bad that we live in a universe filled with eternal spoilers and the death of the reveal. I realize that I contribute to the  perpetuation  of this problem, but I can’t help it. I’m an addict. Word vomiting out of Ain’t It Cool News is that Marvel has already shot a secret trailer for The Avengers, which will be attached to either Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, or both. And oh yeah, the trailer drops the reveal on the villain behind the enormo-flick coming out next year. This would have been a total balls-draining geekgasm to experience without foreknowledge, but c’est la internet or whatever.
