Fuck Bryan Singer, can’t you let us fans of the Marvel movie universe have nice things? A week or whatever after Quicksilver is confirmed for Avengers 2, you come out and let the world know you’re featuring him (played by a different actor than in A2) in your upcoming nightmare.

Opinions Vary: Practically Effective
I don’t mean to alarm anyone here, but sometimes I can sound like an old man bitching about how things today stink. Usually I am aware of my behavior and I ham it up a little. I like sounding like a bitter old man. However today’s Opinions Vary is a very different beast. I actually and truly believe the following.

The Great Blacksby – the literary hero you never noticed
Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby‘s been in theaters for a couple weeks, and it is a truly divisive talking-point amongst moviegoers. While some appreciate the sleek visuals and pervading splendor, others believe that the film isn’t grounded enough to give a fair representation of the novel. No matter which camp you find yourself in, chances’re good that if you’ve read the book or seen the movie you’ve spent some time slinging ideas about.
Such is my situation.
Allow me to be forthright – I believe that The Great Gatsby is an absolutely perfect novel. I’ve spent countless hours reading, discussing, and writing about Fitzgerald’s magnum opus, and yet I still find myself stumbling into new terrain. Of course, whenever I think I’ve find a rock worth turning over, I make a point to shout at anyone who’ll listen.
A couple years ago I posted Nick Carra-Gay?, an exploration of the possibility that the novel’s narrator is gay. Whether or not you go for the theory, it generated some great conversation.
In the hopes of generating similar discussions, I’ve taken a grad school paper I’ve just completed and rearranged it for the OL audience. Give it a read and then hit up the comments section to share your thoughts. I’m not sure if my argument’s got legs to stand on, but at the very least it’s evocative.
After all, the idea at hand is that Jay Gatsby is actually a black guy.

AMAZON to begin publishing FANFICTION through KINDLE WORLDS. Yay? Bah?
Amazon is going to begin publishing fanfiction through Kindle Worlds, which is an offshoot of their self-publishing arm. I don’t write fanfiction, though I do appreciate both its authors and the idea of it. So I don’t know if I’m the best one to weigh in on this shit, so I will stae that I like the idea of these talented folk being recognized. Or not recognized. You know, based on the quality of their work.
NEW ‘MAN OF STEEL’ TRAILER: GENERAL ZOD IS KIND OF A DICK
Man, General Zod has a serious hate-stiffy for old Clark. Homeboy makes it pretty clear in this trailer he is willing to trash tons of us squishy homosapiens just to get old Kent out of hiding. The result? A pretty fucking wicked trailer, replete with all sorts of ‘splosions.
THIS IS OBI-WAN SPEAK FOR F**KS SAKE: XBOX ONE requires DAILY INTERNET CONNECTION.
Microsoft is engaging in some serious fucking Obi-Wan speak when it comes to whether or not their new console requires an always-on Internet connection. It doesn’t. But does. You don’t have to be connected. But you have to connect everyday. I can’t keep track of this fucking stupidity. And yes I think requiring people to connect daily for a single-player game is fucking dumb.
Cosplay: Little girl rocks a STAN LEE outfit, wins at things.
Pretty outstanding cosplay right here. No word on whether or not she was sanctioned by her parents to walk around yelling, “Fuck Jack Kirby!” That would have cinched it right there.
XBOX ONE: F**k you to BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY. FEE for USED GAMES.
What we know about the Xbox One: no backwards compatability. Used games…for a fee. And it ain’t always on.
