SDCC is the Valhalla that I have yet to arrive at. Every year I want to go, and for a variety of reasons I never do. Money (the most important one), access (it’s getting harder and harder to get tickets), someone to go with (I beg Rendar hard) and so on. Watching this trailer gets that drive going again, but in the end it’ll probably just serve as an awesome double-feature at Rancho Omega-o with Indie Game: The Movie.

One movie I’ve been hearing heaps of ridiculously positive buzz about for a year now is Gareth Huw Evans’ The Raid out of Indonesia. Everyone I know who has seen it had their faces blown off by it and I cannot wait until it’s gets a wide release later this year.

FYI: Evans’ previous Indonesian action flick Merantau is now available on Netflix Watch Instantly.

Oh shit! I totally forgot that there’s a new Die Hard in the works. Well, there is, and John McClane’s son has finally been cast. It isn’t Aaron Paul. Bummer time.

It was really hard for me to get past the dialogue in The FP. 75 percent of the time it’s downright atrocious. It’s like listening to someone who learned how to talk from watching Katt Williams stand-up. I understand it’s tongue-in-cheek but that didn’t make it any easier to sit through. It sucks too because apart from the party-pooping dialogue, I really dug everything else about Jason and Brandon Trost’s bizarro Dance-Dance Revolution dystopian gang film. The film is a great example of really talented people taking a totally ridiculous and silly concept, playing it straight the entire way through, and coming out the other end with a distribution deal and mountains of word-of-mouth hype. If only every other word out of those mouths wasn’t “…and shit” or “nigga” then I would have enjoyed The FP a bit more.

For those of us in the United States, today is Presidents Day. If I’m not mistaken, the holiday came about by merging the observances of Washington’s Birthday and Lincoln’s Birthday, and then including every other dude to ever serve as commander-in-chief. Personally, I think that this inclusivity is a bunch of malarkey. I mean, Washington was pretty dope for setting the presidential precedents, so I get wanting to celebrate his life. And Lincoln? Hell, the dude freed the slaves and preserved the Union! Who doesn’t want to give Honest Abe a high-five?

So while there’ve definitely been a few president-studs, they’ve most certainly been outnumbered by the duds. As I sit around today, watching television and reading books and not doing an ounce of work, I’m going to pick and choose the presidents to whom I give thanks. It only seems right.

I’d like to start by giving mad props to Benjamin Harrison, known for serving a single term between President Grover Cleveland’s two terms! Truth!

I completely forgot that McG was in the running for a Superman movie. He was among a cast of thousands all vying for the throne before Frat Boy Rock himself, Zack Snyder, snagged the opportunity. God only knows how Snyder’s “Superman: A Slow Motion Pop Video”  is going to turn out, but McG has recently spread some deets on how his version of the mythos would have went down.
