Monday Morning Commute: rocket-burns and moonshine dreams
Welcome to the MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE! This is the feature I use as an excuse to showcase the various debris that’ll be keeping my brain-bone lubricated so as to avoid jamming up at the hands of the workweek. Some Mondays, I write a little story beforehand as a creative writing exercise and preface the post with it. On other Mondays, I start the post by jotting down an amusing anecdote
And then there’re those Mondays when I’m so tired that my eyes are burning and I don’t have any goddamn coffee filters so kickstarting my creativity with a caffeine-defibrillator isn’t an option and all I want to do is pass out and wake up in 2013 so that I can laugh at all those fucking doomsayers and tell them that their apocalypse wasn’t even worth being awake for.
Guess what kind of Monday today is.
Quit’yer dinkin’ around, let’s do this.
China Wants To Build Comic Museum Shaped Like Speech Bubbles. For $126 Million.

China’s got it good. They own like 95% of America (rough estimate), and they’re going to use their cheddar to do dope stuff. Like build a museum to comics that is shaped like a comic book speech bubble and expensive as fuck. Ah, to dream.
DC’s ‘Justice League #1’ Is The Top-Selling Comic Of 2011. Duh.

It doesn’t surprise me in the least with all the hype behind the DC ‘New 52’ and Justice League #1 and its formerly-amazing creative team of Geoff Blah Johns and Jim Tired Lee that the title is selling well. I don’t know if I saw it selling this much though.
Comic Book Fans Pissed About Batman Reboot. Back In 1987.
Us comic book fans. We kvetch. We did a lot of it regarding the DC ‘New 52’, and we’re following in grand footsteps. Apparently there were people pissed about the Batman reboot. Back in 1987, over Batman: Year One, a story now considered one of the defining tales in the Bat-Man Mythos.

Comics Retailer Boycotting ‘Action Comics #1’ over The Blasphemous Letters ‘GD’.
The Comic Conspiracy, a North Carolinian comic book store is boycotting that fucking heathen Grant Morrison and his liberal brain-washing rag Action Comics over a sound effect in the first issue. The sound effect “GD” has been construed to mean “Goddamn”, which still seems pretty ludicrous to me.
Batman Goes Full On Mech-Armor, Robo-Pimp Hand Is Strong.

Ulises Farinas imagines a world where Batman is the last line of defense. Yeah, we get that a lot. However Farinas imagines a world where the Goddamn Batman has to clamber up into some fucking mech-armor to lay a robotic stink down in an attempt to save the world.
It’s fantastic.
Variant Covers: Transdimensional Super Spy Swagger.
Oh my gosh! The Flashpoint has come and gone! The DC ‘New 52’ has arrived with all the musty fart pomp-and-circumstance-and-nothing-much-else that you’d expect. Last week saw just the conclusion of the worst storyline to cause a Universe relaunch ever, and the first issue of JL(A). And yeah kids, I’m counting Heroes Reborn as better than this nonsense. It had Onslaught! Franklin Richards! Other stuff! Rob Liefeld! This is a new week though, and filled with new titles from DC that actually get me a bit excited. More importantly, this is the return of Mr. Quinn.
Variant Covers. Your pull-list for the week. Show me. I’m practically begging.
Juno Temple’s Role In ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Revealed! Maybe. Sorta?

I’ve abstained from a) reading set-photo reports and b) reporting on them for a while now. I’m not as stringent when it comes to casting rumors and the such. There’s a new report on Juno Temple’s potential role in Dark Knight Rises. Want to speculate? Let’s do it.
Set-Photos Reveal Henry Cavill In Superman Garb. Alien Latex Rock!

I’ve been pretty fucking annoyed with the preponderance of spoilerific set-photos and their fucking spoiler filled headlines from websites like The Daily Blam! for The Avengers, Superman, and Dark Knight 2: Darker Times, and so I’ve abstained from reading/posting a lot of them. (In fact there’s an upcoming invective from me about this bullshit.) Anyways, there’s some harmless and out-of-context photos of Henry Cavill in the Superman costume.
Still though.
Beyond the jump.

Phil Noto continously drops awesome artwork for free.99 over on his Tumblr. He dropped this gem leading up to the DC ‘New 52’ yesterday, while cheering on DC’s effort. Recognizing you know, it could help the entire industry. If it succeeds.
