‘World of Warcraft’ subscriber base hits nine-year low

World of Warcraft.

I probably should have posted about this before Blizzard dropped their expansion announcement last week. But you know, moving. Sort of sucked up my energy. Anyways — WoW has seen its subscriber base drop to a nine-year low. I suppose you could view this negatively. Or you could appreciate the utter fucking lasting power of the franchise. Also, pause to appreciate that the game will definitely draw in former players (hi!) when the next expansion hits.

‘World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor’ dropping Nov. 13

Warlords of Draenor.

The next World of Warcraft expansion, Warlord of Draenor has gotten itself a release date. November 13! The game is arriving just in time for the sun to set early, the wind to cut briskly, and the gamers to huddle within their domiciles away from the cruel weather.

Still on the fence about the next WoW expansion pack. I’ve played every one of them,  my interest diminishing with each installment. The time I spend in the expansion decreased, that Old Douchebag sentiment of yearning for bygone days spiking.

‘WORLD OF WARCRAFT’ expansions will be ARRIVING FASTER. MORE CONTENT. FOREVER.

World of Warcraft.

How do you stop an admittedly still sizable, but hemorrhaging fanbase from continuing to bleed out? Or at least, slow the flow? You give them more content! Makes sense to me. And it makes sense to Blizzard, too. Despite their next expansion pack not even having dropped yet, the company is already working on the follow-up.

Blizzard has dropped the reveal on the next World of Warcraft expansion. And right when they announced new character models, I began licking their toes like the slavish whore that I am.
