‘Thor 2’ Confirmed for Summer of 2013, Without Kenneth Branagh. Fail.
I thought that Thor was a fun, vacuous journey through hammers and Gods and action sequences. Enough to be excited for a sequel a couple years done the road. Marvel confirmed the obvious today, officially announced a second movie was coming. Then they done and crushed my little heart, announced Kenneth Branagh wouldn’t be returning.
International ‘Captain America’ Poster Features The Red Skull and Cap’s Boys.
After the sort of hogwash that I’ve seen this summer, I’m really looking forward to Captain America. The trailer for it that played prior to Transformers: American Freedom Fuck Yeah! was the best part of that movie going experience. Don’t let me down, Evans et al.

New ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ TV Promo Drops Obvious Reveal.
There’s a new Captain America promo running on TV that drops a bit of a spoiler. I guess? It feels pretty obvious to anyone who has ever read or heard about the comic book. It’s still a dope bit though, so if you want to remain unspoiled don’t hit the jump.
Variant Covers: Scalps, Stretchy Junk, and Futurists.
It’s that mid-summer moment where the comic books are twisting in my greasy palms, affronted by humidity and my general toxicity. Comic books! One of the great stalwarts of summers, the MEGA-EVENTS coming out weekly. Say what you will about the general quality of the EXPLODEY TIME STORY ARCS that permeate the shelves during the summer, I’ve come to need them just as a means of passing time. Like marking days off a calendar, they’re there. And they’re omnipresent. Keeping me company.
Like the drunk Uncle at the Christmas parties who you thinks annoys you, but then when he dies in a horror shit-show of cirrhosis and bloody vomiting, you miss him under the mistletoe. Trying to kiss your Mom, his first cousin.
I don’t know what I’m writing about anymore. This is Variant Covers, your weekly take on the tasty licks hitting comic books shelves.
Marvel Explains Why They Reveal Deaths To The Media Early. Hint, Money.
Last week, Marvel revealed the death of Ultimate Spidey in USA Today a day before it dropped on shelves. This seems to be a regular occurrence for the studio these days, so the intrepid souls at Comics Alliance wanted to know why. Fucking why.
The explanation isn’t complicated.
Preview Of Hickman and Ribic’s ‘Ultimates #1’ Makes Me Care About That Universe.
Last week I was totally going emo over the lack of care I had for Marvel’s Ultimate universe. Somewhere, despite having been aware of it, I didn’t recall this forthcoming gem. Jonathan Hickman writes my favorite titles for the Marvel Universe, and Esad Ribic’s work on Uncanny X-Force was some of the most glorious art I’d seen in many a fortnight. Put the two of them together on Ultimate Comics Ultimates #1 (worst title ever) and all of a sudden I’m rather stoked. Stoke-ified. Stoked through and through.

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ Trailer #2 Is Summer Pop Bliss.
This movie has gone from being “Oh Christ I don’t know about!” before the Super Bowl advertisement to my most anticipated movie of the summer. I want to rub all my fleshy nubs all over every part of this trailer.

New ‘Captain America’ Poster Is Less Emo, More Ideal.
The first Captain America poster that was released to promote the movie was brooding and emo as fuck. It looked like a background leftover from Batman Begins or some shit. The new one makes more sense. The Aryan Posterchild-turned-Representative-of-America staring into a glorious sunset.
