Fuggity fuck yes! Warren Ellis is getting back into the creator-owned comics game. Ellis along with Jason Howard is bringing Trees to Image, and you can probably feel the Force-ripples from my cascading dong thunder from wherever you are. While I’m pretty “meh” about his latest novel, and really “ehhhh” about Moon Knight, the author diving back into the world of his own sequential-art-creations is fantastigasm.

Teased on Tuesday and confirmed early Wednesday morning, Trees is a new comic book miniseries written by Warren Ellis and drawn by Jason Howard. Described by Ellis (Planetary, FreakAngels, the forthcoming Moon Knight)  as a science fiction comics serial that will be released in print, the first issue goes on sale in May from Image Comics.

Image solicitation for issue one is as follows:

Ten years after they landed. All over the world. And they did nothing, standing on the surface of the Earth like trees, exerting their silent pressure on the world, as if there were no-one here and nothing under foot. Ten years since we learned that there is intelligent life in the universe, but that they did not recognise us as intelligent or alive. Beginning a new science fiction graphic novel by Warren Ellis & Jason Howard.

The co-creator of The Astounding Wolf-Man and Super Dinosaur, Howard previously collaborated with Ellis on the digital-exclusive comic Scatterlands, a project which the writer described on his website as “so much fun” that “we wondered what a full series together would look like, and then [Trees] took over.”
