‘Hyper Light Drifter’ looking to drift…onto PC & Steam this holiday

Hyper Light Drifter.

Fuck you and your headlines, Caff-Pow! It’s like you’re thirteen Diet Dews and a Sudafed deep! Reality is buzzing and forget headlines, between the mucous drip and the shakes you can barely maintain a presence in this plane of reality! I say — precisely! But while I’m here, I’m going to enjoy the news that Hyper Light Drifter is dropping this holiday.

Heart Machine is aiming to release its crowd-funded 2D action role-playing game,Hyper Light Drifter, for Windows PC and Steam by the holiday season, the developer announced via Kickstarter.

Described as a game that “plays like the best parts of A Link to the Past and Diablo,”Hyper Light Drifter puts players into the role of an ill drifter searching for a cure. Because the Steam and Windows versions were the initial platform, the developer wrote, they’ll be released first. The game’s other platform launches will follow “shortly thereafter.” A closed beta is expected around June.

“After heavy development, much discussion and examination, the team and I have decided that we will not rush the project,” the post reads. “There’s an intense desire to create a polished, beautiful experience and we need more time to do so.”

The post also includes an update to the $75 backer tier, which will now include a digital world map and customizable in-game companions.

Hyper Light Drifter successfully completed Kickstarter funding in October of last year, surpassing its modest $27,000 goal with more than $645,000 raised. The game will feature music from Rich Vreeland (also known as Disasterpeace), whose music appeared in Fez.
