‘Final Fantasy VII Remake’ is going to be “multi-part” series. So like, episodic? Wark?

Barrrretz

Hmm. Here is a bit of a wrinkle here, to the Final Fantasy VII Remake drama. Maybe you’re one of those people not upset with the changes to the combat system (hi! I like the changes!), and you’re feeling left out. You feel like you deserve something to huff and puff and fanboy fume about, too. Well, good news, fan looking for faux-outrage to glom onto. Square has announced that the FFVII:Remake is going to be “multi-part” — and I don’t know which of the next two options I hate more.

Option One: The game is going to be episodic, so they can churn out bits and pieces. That smacks of a money grab. And what does that do for exploring a world? Like. Can I only explore Location X in Episode Y? Fuck that noise, man. It’s an RPG.

Option Two: The company is going to part-out the series so that the saga takes place across multiple titles? I suppose I would prefer the latter, but man. C’mon.

How do you feel about this very vague, and nebulous news?

Polygon:

Final Fantasy 7 Remake just got a new trailer at this weekend’s PlayStation Experience, opening up the event’s keynote presentation yesterday. However, something that wasn’t revealed during the event was the news that the PlayStation 4 game will be released as a “multi-part series.”

This comes from a press release sent out by Square Enix today, which indicates that Final Fantasy 7 Remake will unfold over several entries, with each one “providing its own unique experience.”

Whether that means it will unfold in an episodic manner or resemble the expanded Final Fantasy 13 universe remains to be seen; the game is still unscheduled. You can play the original PlayStation version on PlayStation 4 right now; it’s now on sale at the PlayStation Store, and is available at a 30 percent discount through Dec. 13, after which it will cost $15.99.
