WB Games Montreal working on two new DC Comics games

Justice League.

I didn’t fuck with Batman: Arkham Origins, because I heard it wasn’t that special. Was this due to its developer? I sort of hope not, since said development team is now in charge of two games based on DC comics.

Robot 6:

WB Games Montreal, the studio behind 2013’s Batman: Arkham Origins, is developing not one but two new titles based on DC Comics.

The news was revealed Monday in job listings for the big-budget titles “focused on expanding the DC Comics universe in the interactive space.” However, there are no details beyond that, opening the door to wild speculation.

Odd are that at least one of them will star the Dark Knight, of course. Rocksteady Studios concluded its Arkham trilogy this summer with Batman: Arkham Knight, which has been a smash hit for Warner Bros. Interactive, selling more than 5 million copies. And the publisher has given every indication it isn’t quite ready to leave Gotham. As Ames Kirshen, who oversees development of DC Comics games, said, “the possibilities are endless with a character as dynamic and beloved as Batman.”

However, he also emphasized in September that Batman wouldn’t be the sole focus, explaining, “When choosing what DC Entertainment IP we might focus on for any game, it boils down to honing in on the IPs that map the strongest, genre-wise, to what fans are interested in seeing and playing.”

What could the other be? With the growing prominence of DC as part of Warner Bros.’ film and television plans, there are a lot of possibilities. However, while a movie tie-in may seem the most obvious, WB Montreal indicated in that past that it has little interest in those. Maybe that rumored open-world action game

WB Games Montreal was founded in 2010 with a focus on developing games based on DC Comics properties; its biggest accomplishments to date are the aforementioned Arkham Cityand the Batman: Arkham Knight DLC “Batgirl: A Matter of Family.”
