CONFIRMED: ‘STAR WARS’ is getting stand-alone character movies.

GET THIS FUCKING DROID A MOVIE.

Ha! Looks like my prediction of the Star Wars going full Marvel Movie Universe wasn’t just the blatherings of a man who masturbates into a Jabba the Hutt sock. I mean, well. It was quite that, it just turns out that it is true as well.

The Verge:

It’s well known at this point that Disney and Lucasfilm are actively working on a new entrant in the Star Wars film franchise, known as Episode VII, as well as planning to continue the series beyond that. But in addition to keeping the linear Star Wars movies going, Disney CEO Bob Iger has confirmed that the much-rumored standalone movie is also in development. Speaking to CNBC, Iger said “I can confirm to you today that in fact we are working on a few standalone films, Larry Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are both working on films derived from great Star Wars characters that are not part of the overall saga.” Additionally, Iger reiterated the plans to release Episodes VIIVIII, and IX over the course of six years starting in 2015. Unfortunately, we don’t know what these spinoff movies will focus on, or how they will relate to the greater Star Wars narrative. Recent rumors have suggested that one of the movies will focus on the Yoda character, though Iger did not confirm or deny that. Either way, there should be plenty of Star Wars movies hitting theaters to keep fans occupied over the next decade or so.
