Report: New Nintendo Switch with 4K graphics dropping in 2021. Sign me the fuck up!

I fucking regret selling my Nintendo Switch. Okay? I’ll admit it! It appears I’ll get my best shot at acquiring one in 2021, when the company is dropping a new one. Sporting 4K graphics and shit. Seriously. So, for now? I wait. ‘Cause presently? COVID got them motherfuckers scarce!

Polygon:

Nintendo will release an upgraded model of its Switch hardware in 2021, according to a report from Bloomberg. The new Nintendo Switch model could feature more computing power and support for 4K resolution visuals, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

Reports of an upgraded version of the Switch have been circulating for nearly two years. The Wall Street Journal reported in October 2018 that Nintendo planned to introduce a cheaper model of the Switch — the Switch Lite was later released in 2019 — and another model with an improved screen. In April 2019, Bloomberg reported that a “modest upgrade” for the Switch was in development, but that a “more powerful version” wasn’t. Nintendo would later release an updated version of the Switch with improved battery life.

Nintendo has a long history of introducing upgrades to existing hardware platforms, such as the New Nintendo 3DS XL, an updated version of the popular Nintendo 3DS handheld, which improved loading times and visuals thanks to a boost in computing power.

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo has a “slew of games” planned to coincide with the release of the new Switch. That push to release new games next year is to blame for the company’s comparatively slow output for 2020, according to Bloomberg’s sources.

The remainder of Nintendo’s 2020 lineup is mostly a mystery. Nintendo plans to release a Switch version of Wii U game Pikmin 3 in October, and is rumored to have re-releases of multiple Super Mario games and a version of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword in the works for Switch.
