Linda Hamilton is returning to the ‘Terminator’ franchise, cause why the fuck not at this point

linda hamilton returning terminator franchise

Hard to really bag on the news that Linda Hamilton is returning, right? I mean, every old as fuck person in Hollywood is returning to their either dormant or dead-as-fuck franchise at this point. As well, who knows. The Terminator flicks really don’t have anything to lose at this point.

CBR:

Actress Linda Hamilton is reuniting with James Cameron for the next installment of the Terminator franchise.

The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, who revealed that the actress will be reuniting with both Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger, more than 25 years since the last time they all worked together on 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Hamilton will, of course, reprise her role as Sarah Connor in a new story produced by Cameron. The director made the announcement of Hamilton’s involvement during a private event celebrating the franchise.

“As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then, it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return,” Cameron is quoted.

Cameron, of course, recently came under fire for calling this summer’s hit Wonder Woman film a “step back” for women, calling the DC Comics superhero more of a beauty icon than a fully realized character like Sarah Connor. While he has yet to address the backlash following those comments, he went on to state that the inclusion of Connor in the latest Terminatorinstallment will make for a statement on gender roles in action films.

“There are 50-year old, 60-year old guys out there killing bad guys,” he said, referring to aging male actor still anchoring movies. “But there isn’t an example of that for women.”

This as-yet untitled latest installment will be directed by Tim Miller, director of 2016’s Deadpool, who officially came on board the project just last week. As of right now, story details are sparse but it is said that the film will serve as a direct sequel to Terminator: Judgement Day. Cameron and company are currently looking for “an 18-something woman” to serve as a centerpiece for the story alongside a slew of new characters that are hoped to take over the franchise going forward.
