Angela Lansbury in talks to join ‘Game of Thrones’; No, seriously.

Angela

Angela Lansbury seems like a totally *natural* fit for, uh, Game of Thrones. Right?

CBR:

Here’s some casting news that’s a bit out of left field: Games Radar reports that “Murder, She Wrote” star Angela Lansbury is in talks to join season seven of HBO’s cornerstone series, “Game of Thrones.” The rumor posits that Lansbury, who also voiced Mrs. Potts in the Disney animated classic “Beauty and the Beast,” will be on set for four days in order to film scenes for two episodes in the abbreviated season. If true, she’ll be joining respectable British actor Jim Broadbent (“Hot Fuzz,” “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”), who was also recently announced to be making an appearance in the show.

One of the longest running and most successful television crime shows in history, “Murder, She Wrote,” aired on CBS from 1984-1996, during which time Lansbury racked up — and still holds — the record for most Golden Globe nominations and wins for a lead actress. Centered on the fictional small town of Cabot Cove, Maine, the show lasted for 264 episodes with Lansbury solving a murder in just about every one. Fans and critics have pointed out that if Cabot Cove were a real place, it would be have one of the highest murder rates in the world — so as strange as the casting may sound, Lansbury might actually fit right in with the blood-soaked denizens of Westeros.

“Game of Thrones” is currently filming for its seven-episode seventh season, and is set to premiere on HBO sometime next summer.
