‘Borderlands 3’ Teaser Trailer: Mayhem Is Coming!

This…this Borderlands 3 teaser trailer is my everything.

Polygon:

Are you ready for some more Borderlands?

Gearbox Software has released a new teaser trailer for an upcoming Borderlands game to get everyone ready for its livestream from PAX East tomorrow at 2 p.m. EDT. You can watch the teaser above, although you won’t see any gameplay or hints about what the game will actually be, outside of cameos from some well-known characters and enemies. The teaser is called “Mask of Mayhem.”

It’s a stylish way to get fans excited for the series again, without showing anything that would dull the impact of the actual gameplay or story reveal. A trailer like this also sends a message: These characters, and this style, have become iconic. Gearbox doesn’t have to come up with a hook to get people excited; it just needs to hint that more of that thing you like is coming. All of the familiar aspects of the series are here, just carved out of stone in a design that ultimately resolves to a very familiar mask.

This isn’t the first time that Gearbox has teased something that seems to be Borderlands 3, however. Gearbox president Randy Pitchford even told fans at PAX West last year that Gearbox was “working on the thing I think most of you guys want us to be working on.”

The last numbered Borderlands game was Borderlands 2, which Gearbox Software released in 2012.

We’ll learn more on Thursday.
