New Dark Tower poster! Everyone who this excites, celebrate! Oh, celebrate so much.

CBR:

“Ka is a wheel.” That’s one of the many greetings and aphorisms exchanged by the citizens of Mid-World, the world where Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower” takes place. Well, one of many worlds. “The Dark Tower” is King’s magnum opus, originally a sprawling series of seven books, with an eighth book released 2012. It has never been a movie before, but Nikolaj Arcel is at the helm directing a “Dark Tower” film for summer, 2017.

“May your days be long upon the Earth,” the new poster reads. That’s another popular Mid-World greeting, delivered in the fourth book, Wizard and Glass. It may seem strange to feature a line from later in the series so prominently on the poster, but “The Dark Tower” won’t be like other movie adaptations.

Besides the series proper, Stephen King inserted aspects of the “Dark Tower” throughout all his works. Sometimes it will just be a little reference here or there. Sometimes a character will jump across worlds (or in this case, books) to have major roles in other stories. The sinister Man in Black, played in this movie by Matthew McConaughey goes by many names. He’s the antagonist in the first “Dark Tower” book “The Gunslinger” and he is also the bad guy in “The Stand”.

This movie is looking to be just another story in the “Dark Tower” saga. The huge narrative is filled with repetitions and recurring characters and references and callbacks. That’s part of what the denizens of Mid-World mean when they say that “Ka is a wheel”. So when this new poster takes a quote used most prominently in a later book, it’s further evidence that even die-hard fans of King’s works should expect to be surprised by this film, which looks to be adapting aspects of many of King’s books.

Opening July 28th, 2017, “The Dark Tower” stars Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey, Abbey Lee, Katheryn Winnick, Tom Taylor, Fran Kranz, Claudia Kim and Jackie Earle Haley.
