‘American Gods’ Trailer: Something feels weird

Polygon:

Folks lucky enough to get into today’s packed American Gods panel at San Diego Comic-Con were treated to a big screen look at the first footage from the long-anticipated series.

Based on the award-winning 2001 novel by Neil Gaiman, Starz’s American Gods follows the story of Shadow Moon, a man released from prison several days early due to his wife’s untimely death. On the way to her funeral, he encounters the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, and — long story short — finds himself in a deep dive into America’s secret folkloriffic underbelly. Ultimately, he becomes embrolied in the beginning of a divine conflict between ancient and modern gods, with a key role to play that not even he understands.

HBO had previously expressed interested in an American Gods adaptation, but plans fell through. In July of 2014, Starz picked up the series, and announced that Bryan Fuller and Michael Green would be developing.

American Gods will star Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon and Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, along with Gillian Anderson, Pablo Schreiber, Yetide Badaki, Bruce Langley and, newly announced at Comic-Con, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter. We got our first (photographic) look at the series in June. The series is expected to premiere in 2017.
