Disney’s ‘The BFG’ Trailer: Welcome To Giant Country

Polygon:

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg and Disney’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG is here and is full of themes fans of the director’s work will be familiar with.

The story follows a girl named Sophie after she befriends a giant, named the BFG (voiced by Mark Rylance), and sets out with him to protect the world from a sect of evil, man-eating giants. The book was originally published in 1982 and has been a cherished children’s book ever since.

The BFG (which stands for The Big Friendly Giant) marks the first Disney-branded film that Spielberg will direct. Although Dreamworks picked up the production rights for the film in 2011, Disney purchased the rights to the project in April 2015 and became the major co-financiers on the project. The concept for the film, however, has been in development since 1991, when producer Kathleen Kennedy (of Star Wars fame) began development for the feature at Paramount Pictures.

The BFG, which also stars Bill Hader, will be released July 1.
