‘Streets of Rage’ and ‘Shenmue’ soundtracks are getting a vinyl release

RAGEZ!!

Man. If I would be all over this shit if I was cool enough to have a fucking record player. Maybe when Mrs. Omega and I take the even more serious step (hundreds of thousands of dollars in-debt to “buy” a house), I’ll get into the vinyl game. Buy dope shit like this.

The soundtracks to two Sega classics, Genesis beat ’em up Streets of Rage and Dreamcast adventure RPG Shenmue, are making the leap to vinyl. A new record label called Data Discs announced today it will release the soundtracks to those two games on LP later this year, each remastered for vinyl.

London-based Data Discs calls itself “the first record label solely dedicated to releasing video game soundtracks on vinyl,” adding that it’s working with “some of the world’s biggest publishers” to bring classic and modern game soundtracks to vinyl.

The Streets of Rage soundtrack is said to be fully remastered in collaboration with the original composer, Yuzo Koshiro. Both albums are pressed on 180 gram vinyl and include lithographic prints for each title.

Data Discs will open pre-orders for the Streets of Rage and Shenmue soundtracks on May 30 through its website and offer “exclusive editions” to those who order early. The records will ship this September. Data Discs says each album, which will come in three different editions, is priced at £19.99.

Sega recently collaborated with another company, art dealer Cook and Becker, on a series of art prints based on its classic franchises, including Phantasy Star, Shinobi and Golden Axe.
