GOOGLE gets its own ‘SIX DEGREES OF KEVIN BACON’ calculator. Cultural trope shark jumped.

Google wants to help you find Kevin Bacon. Frankly, all I want to find is his massive fucking donger in Wild Things. Maybe you’re looking for him in a more pedestrian manner. Whatever the case, Google has our backs. And dongs.

The Verge:

Google search has come a long way from the plain old list of ten results — there’s a full calculator with graphing functionsflight searchmovie showtimes, and currency conversion just to name a few — but now the search engine is getting a bit more pop culture functionality. As of today, you can type “bacon number” followed by any actor’s or actress’ name to find out just how many degrees of separation there are between that person and well-traveled actor Kevin Bacon.

Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon — a play on the concept of six degrees of separation — has been around since the mid nineties, so it’s fair to say that this isn’t Google’s most innovative project. There have long been Bacon number websites, of course, but what makes Google’s implementation different is that it relies on the recently-released Knowledge Graph. Long-standing sites like The Oracle of Bacon leverage IMDB data to make the connections between movie stars and Kevin Bacon, and, according to New York Magazine, that site is still a better source for accurate Bacon numbers. For instance, Justin Bieber has a respectable Bacon number of two on that site, thanks to his extremely brief role in Men in Black 3, instead of Google’s best guess: a four.
