Kanye West and Dropkick Murphys Playing ‘Call of Duty’ Convention. Douche Conglomerate.

While I love Call of Duty, it is a scientific fact that the majority of people you meet online playing it are probably rotting choads. It makes sense then that Activision is gathering their own armada of musician choads to play the Call of Duty XP: Give Us More Money Experience convention.

Kanye West. Dropkick Murphys.

Woof.

Kotaku:

Kanye West isn’t the only musician performing at the first-ever Call of Duty convention, Irish punk-rockers Dropkick Murphys will be closing the first night of the show, Activision said today.

The band is performing opening night at 8 p.m. on Sept. 2 at the Call of Duty XP event. Then on Sunday night Kayne West will wrap up the two-day, Call of Duty celebration and fundraiser.

“With an unbeatable lineup of real-world and in-game experiences, Call of Duty XP was already poised to be an historic event for fans of the franchise,” said Eric Hirshberg, Chief Executive Officer of Activision Publishing. “The addition of Dropkick Murphys just makes XP that much more memorable. Few bands fit the bill better-we’re thrilled to have them performing on opening day.”

Call of Duty XP runs from Sept. to Sept. 3 and costs $150 a person. A paid ticket gets you a copy of Modern Warfare 3 (a voucher, most likely, since the game isn’t out until November), a world’s-first hands-on with MW3’s competitive multiplayer, live-action recreations of elements of the series and more. All proceeds go to the CoD veterans’ charity.

As a fellow resident Boston like the Dropkick Murphys, I take their inclusion as a face-palm. All of their fame is derived from that annoying ass song from The Departed, and the general motif of “Rah rah we’re Irish rah rah Go Bruins!” I’m generalizing. Still.

I can’t come down too hard on the convention, since it is benefiting a charity.
