Joss Whedon: ‘The Avengers’ Won’t Be ‘Obnoxiously 3D’, Doesn’t Admit 3D Sucks.

In what was a pretty obvious move, today Disney announced that they were wunder-converting The Avengers into stupendous 3D.  Whedon says don’t panic though, it isn’t going to be total balls.

Slashfilm:

Earlier today,  Walt  Disney  Pictures  announced  that they will be releasing  The Avengers  in Digital Disney 3D. While I pretty much wrote this off as expected, it seemed to surprise some fans. Whedon talked exclusively with  JoBlo, stating that  The Avengers  won’t be “obnoxiously 3D.”

Whedon said:

“There’s no, ‘Oh look, we’re going to spend 20 minutes going through this tunnel because it’s in 3D!’ And no one is pointing at the screen the entire time. But it’s an action  movie. Things tend to hurtle toward the screen anyway.” … “I’m not a big fan of extreme long lens, talky movies — I like to see the space I’m in and relate to it, so 3D kinda fits my aesthetic anyway. And the technology has advanced so far in the past couple years.”

At the  very best, it’s just going to be extra money on my fucking ticket. Though to be fair, I have to assume these sorts of decisions are far above him in the corporate hierarchy.
