The ‘Flash’ standalone movie to be directed by ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ writers. If you can’t beat them, recruit them!

The DCU has been getting its ass kicked by the MCU for years, friends. For years! So, they’ve done what many competitors do when they’ve been so thrashed. If they can’t compete with a competitor’s talent, they make it their own. The DCU has gone full Yankees, friends. And honestly, I’m actually excited by this news. I really, really enjoyed Homecoming.

Polygon:

Spider-Man: Homecoming writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in negotiations with Warner Bros. to direct DC’s stand-alone Flash movie, Flashpointaccording to a Variety report.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. was originally interested in Ben Affleck, who is rumored to reprise his role as Batman for the film, as a director on Flashpoint. Affleck’s participation in the DC Cinematic Universe as Batman, however, is up in the air. It’s unclear at this point if he will return to play Batman in Flashpoint, or if the character will be used at all.

Warner Bros.’ stand-alone Flash movie became Flashpoint at San Diego Comic-Con in 2017. The name Flashpoint insinuated a big change for the DC Cinematic Universe, which could affect the future of the franchise and what heroes remained in that world.

The comic book series Flashpoint debuted in May 2011 and changed basically everything we knew about the DC Universe to the point that Flashpoint led to DC Comics’ relaunch, which was dubbed the New 52.

In Flashpoint, Barry Allen (Flash) finds himself in a world full of changes both big and small — and only he is aware of what’s happened. Cyborg, for example, a character who became immensely popular in the cinematic universe after Justice League, has become the world’s exemplary superhero. Superman, everyone’s favorite golden boy, however, is being held captive by the government in an underground lab somewhere in Metropolis.

Flashpoint had been on hold since 2016, when director Rick Famuyiwa, best known for the movie Dope, walked away from the project.

Flashpoint doesn’t have a release date at this time.
