‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ Launch Trailer: Finding A New Home Is *Way* Hard

Mass Effect: Andromeda. Less than two weeks away, comrades. Get hype. To find a new home for humanity.

Polygon:

The launch trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda, the long-awaited followup to the Mass Effect trilogy, is here to give us yet another mysterious hint at the crisis that befalls the Andromeda Initiative at the end of its 600-year journey.

We already know that the player will be taking on the role of the Pathfinder, a title that seems to initially be that of the father of the main character: Ryder. What exactly happens to the elder Ryder for that to be the case remains unknown. But things seem even more dire in the launch trailer, released today.

“The entire Initiative is at risk,” explains a character. “None of the Golden Worlds panned out,” indicating that the Initiative has not found the galaxy of Andromeda to be as hospitable as expected — even on a basic geological level.

“We need to find more resources,” the voice continues, “But that takes people, and we can’t wake them up,” indicating that the Initiative may not be able to house or support the thousands of colonists still in cryosleep without planetary bases to draw from.

We’ll find out exactly what all of this means in less than a couple weeks, on March 21.
