Man! Look at Star-Lord. Beautiful fucker. Just look at him in this new photo! Beautiful. But also “damaged goods” according to James Gunn.

CBR:

In the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, Star-Lord and his friends found a family in each other, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be smooth sailing for them from hereon out. According to “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” director James Gunn, the team will struggle with accepting love and support from one another in the sequel film.

“To let somebody love you is a very difficult thing, especially when you’re damaged goods. And all of the Guardians are damaged goods,” he explained to USA Today.

This idea will also tie into Star-Lord’s relationship with his biological father. “It runs the gamut of emotions for him, wanting to understand why his father wasn’t around to quickly idolizing him and ultimately learning the reality of the relationship and comparing the man who sired him to the man who raised him,” added Chris Pratt, who will reprise his role as Peter “Star-Lord” Quill in the upcoming film.

In “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” Kurt Russel will play Ego the Living Planet, who will be revealed as Star-Lord’s mysterious father. Not much is known about the character, though Gunn indicated that he will be “a big piece of the cosmic universe puzzle” moving forward. The first film dropped several clues about Ego without directly calling him by name; for instance, Star-Lord’s mother described him as “an angel, composed out of pure light.” Additionally, at the end of the film, the Ravager Yondu reveals that he was sent by Ego to take Peter to him and adds, “That guy was a jackass.” As such, it appears as though “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will paint a similarly complex portrait of this elusive character.
