Marvel Studios’ upcoming “Black Panther” film just got more star power. According to Marvel.com, Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ramonda, mother to T’Challa, aka Black Panther.

Bassett has over 80 acting credits to her name, including “Malcolm X.” She was nominated for an Academy Award as best actress in a leading role for “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and won a Golden Globe in the same category for the film. Most recently, she appeared as Monet Tumusiime in “American Horror Story.” Additionally, she played Doctor Waller in Warner Bros.’ “Green Lantern” film.

Chadwick Boseman will star in the film as T’Challa, the king of Wakanda and holder of the Black Panther mantle. The character made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in “Captain America: Civil War,” where he sided with Iron Man against Captain America’s team. Over the course of the film, he assumed the title of King of Wakanda, like his father before him, and donned the mantle of Black Panther in his quest for revenge.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, “Black Panther” also stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o. The film opens Feb. 16, 2018.
