‘Sherlock’ Season 4 Will Premiere On New Year’s Day

sherlock season 4 premiere

CBR:

Everyone’s favorite consulting detective will return as “Sherlock” is back for its fourth season on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2017. The first episode is titled “The Six Thatchers,” and was written by series co-creator Mark Gatiss.

The new image released for the episode is simple yet startling — Sherlock would never let a string on his violin remain broken. Is this foreshadowing to Sherlock’s unhinged mental state this season?

An updated trailer also dropped today, featuring the new release date alongside footage of Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch), Watson (Martin Freeman), Sherlock’s dubious yet faithful brother Mycroft (Mark Gatiss), Watson’s assassin wife (Amanda Abbington) and the season-long villain (Toby Jones).

The series will pick up after the death of season three villain Magnussen and in the wake of the apparent return of season two villain James Moriarty. While the Christmas Special seemed to prove that Moriarty could have faked his own death, Sherlock seems prepared for anything Moriarty may have planned posthumously.

“Sherlock” will return to the US and the UK on Jan. 1, 2017.
