Gears of War 4 will launch on both Xbox One and Windows 10 simultaneously, Microsoft announced during its E3 press event this morning. It’s the first game in the shooter series to hit Windows alongside console at launch.

Microsoft showed off new gameplay, which was introduced by voice actress Laura Bailey. It shows off wind effects rendered in real-time, co-op and other upgrades.

Also confirmed during the event is that Gears 4 will bring back Horde. The arcade-style mode, which sends waves of enemies up against a team of players, made its debut in Gears of War 2. Compared to older entries in the series, Gears of War 4 has a greater emphasis on multiplayer, as developer The Coalition told us in April.

Every co-op mode in the game will support cross-play, according to the conference. This is a new practice for Microsoft, which it also announced during its event. Called Xbox Play Anywhere, games in the program will offer digital copies across both platforms at no additional cost. Progress made and achievements earned in the game will be shared between the two systems as well.

Microsoft will release Gears of War 4 on Oct. 11, along with a special Gears-branded Xbox Elite controller. It’s The Coalition’s first title in the series and will mark the debut of JD Fenix, former franchise hero Marcus Fenix’s son. Marcus will make an appearance in this game as well.
