CBR:

We’ve known for some time that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” will focus on the identity of Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) father, and now a report from The Wrap more than confirms that. Unnamed sources have informed the Wrap that “GOTG2” writer/director James Gunn wants Kurt Russell to join the cast in the important role.

The article states that Marvel Studios has not yet offered the part to Russell and that the actor has not yet read the script; still, meetings are expected to take place soon between the two parties.

The identity of Star-Lord’s father has also been at the center of a number of rumors surrounding the film, rumors that Gunn himself stepped up to squash.

If Russell and Marvel make a deal, he won’t be the only new addition to the cast. NewcomerPom Klementieff joined the cast in October in a major role, most likely as the Guardian known as Mantis.

Written and directed by James Gunn and starring Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista and the voices of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” opens on May 5, 2017.
