Bryan Singer shows off enormous Egyptian set piece from ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Judging by a new photograph published to director Bryan Singer’s Instagram feed, it looks like the ’80s-set “X-Men: Apocalypse” will be kicking it old school in a number of ways. In addition to be set during the first Reagan administration, the film will also dive into the mythology surrounding En Sabah Nur, a mutant also known as Apocalypse that has a history that stretches all the way back ancient Egypt.

The photo, which you can see below, shows Singer standing at the foot of a giant statue of Anubis, an Egyptian deity associated with the afterlife. In true throwback fashion, Singer tagged the pic “#notallgreenscreen,” pointing out that “Apocalypse” will utilize both practical and digital sets in order to bring the epic to life.
