Grant Morrison has been named Editor-in-Chief of ‘Heavy Metal’ magazine

Well thenz

Oh, Grant Morrison. I shouldn’t even fucking attempt to predict what you’ll be up to next.

CBR:

Grant Morrison has joined long-running fantasy/sci-fi comics magazine “Heavy Metal” as its Editor-in-Chief, as reported Monday by Entertainment Weekly. The first issue under his tenure is set for release in February, and Morrison plans to contribute his own comics and prose material to the magazine, along with serving in his editorial capacity.

“We’re trying to bring back some of that ’70s punk energy of ‘Heavy Metal,’ but update it and make it new again,” Morrison told EW. “One of the things I like to do in my job is revamp properties and really get into the aesthetic of something, dig into the roots of what makes it work, then tinker with the engine and play around with it. So for me, it’s an aesthetic thing first and foremost.”

This is the latest in several high-profile recent “Heavy Metal” moves, starting with the brand’s acquisition in 2014 by Jeff Krelitz and David Boxenbaum, who purchased it from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator Kevin Eastman, who has remained as the magazine’s publisher. “I gave it thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs up. Eastman said to EW. “He is going to blow some minds and expand some others.”

“The idea of immersing myself in the aesthetic of ‘Heavy Metal’ is exciting,” Morrison continued. “It’s going to change the clothes I wear, the way I create; it’s like a performance for me. Beyond that, just the idea of being able to curate stories, decide the direction of the magazine, and work with great talent and develop new talent is an exciting opportunity.”
