Winamp lives! You can’t keep the ancient program down. Or dead.

Winamp

You can’t keep an old school music-playing program down! A company I haven’t heard of has swoooped in to buy the program I haven’t used in ten years.

Last month, Winamp sauntered up to the brink of death, but now it’s back. Thanks to a first rumored and now confirmed acquisition by digital audio business Radionomy, both Winamp and Shoutcast will live on.

According to TechCrunch, Winamp made it out of the close call unscathed, maybe evenimproved:

Radionomy intends to offer Winamp’s media player just as it is today — with access to those 60,000 stations, but also playback ability for 60 audio and video formats; 6,000 add-ons like skins and plug-ins; and availability in 16 languages.

Phew. Sometimes you don’t know what you got until it’s (almost) gone.

Still though, good to know that the little sucker is out there still livin’. Still survivin’. Just knowing it is out there in the world still makes me happy. Like my Nana. Winamp is the My Nana of applications.
