THIS WEEK ON Eastbound & Down – Chapter 17

Cleanup

If you follow the patent-pending Eastbound story arc, the 4th episode always ends up being one of the darkest. This season is no exception, as things get pretty grim…in a good way. This week Kenny deals with the aftermath of Shane’s death, and a mountain of child-born adversity, as we step back into the dark underbelly of comedic greatness after the jump.

I have to admit I am phoning this one in after a long week skiing with Kanye West. But that is an entirely different post altogether. I figure the comment minions can hash out anything I happen to gloss over.

We start off pretty strong with an epic cleanup scene, as Kenny erases any evidence of his involvement in Shane’s early demise. The scene is hilarious, and ends with Kenny commandeering Shane’s Pussy Magnet.

Cut to Kenny and Stevie observing Shane’s body prior to his official wake. Stevie comes correct with the insanely dark corpse dominance. I almost peed as he utters “I win” and then slaps his corpse sissily. In this scene we learn that Shane actually had a twin brother, Cole. At first his presence seems like it could be an insanely funny twist, but then falls short in execution throughout the episode.

Kenny socially extorts Cole on a night out to discuss his personal issues. Cole is the obvious good twin, and is awkwardly normal and responsible. Kenny leads Cole to the dorm of Shane’s former girlfriend who is in obvious mourning. He presents Cole as a prank, but it seemed like it could have been funnier.

Stevie continues to pursue his mission of cheating on his wife. There is a great scene where he is nursing a large boner at the beach observing the beautiful babies. My favorite Stevie moment came whilst he was in bed with Maria watching a porno and decides to spice up the action by stating, “whatever they do we do”. The woman on the porno whips out a giant dildo and procedes to take the male actor from behind.

The episode winds down with Shane’s funeral. Kenny interrupts the proceedings with a portable speaker system, and delivers one of his world famous awkward speeches. This one delves to new depths as it takes on death, and publicly finalizes the Tom Cruise/Goose debate they had been having. Meanwhile Stevie once again steals the show with a hilarious impromptu slaying of Shane’s sister in a nearby parked car.

Cole repo’s Shane’s car, and Kenny is left pretty deep in the dark. One of the last images we see is the reenactment of the aforementioned sex act by Stevie and Maria. Stevie has come full circle since being the whiney bitch we met in episode 2. That’s it. I’m out. (drops the mic)
