James Spader Officially Joins ‘The Office’. Just Let It Die. I Beg You.
The minds behind The Office have come together and officially announced their replacement for Steve Carell. Kind of. James Spader will be joining the cast for the eighth season of The Office, and he’ll be tasked with sort of but not really taking the position left behind by Michael Scott. It’s all a bit confusing.
Daily Blam:
Multiple Emmy Award winner James Spader (“Boston Legal,” “The Practice”) will be joining the regular cast of NBC’s The Office (Thursdays, 9-9:30 p.m. ET) as CEO Robert California of Sabre, the parent company of Dunder Mifflin.
“James will reprise his role as Robert California, this uber-salesman that has a power to convince and manipulate, like a high-class weirdo Jedi warrior,” said Paul Lieberstein, one of the series’ executive producers and a series regular. “He’ll have been hired over the summer as the new manager, but within hours, got himself promoted. Within days, he took over the company. James has an energy that is completely his own, and The Office has no tools for dealing with this guy. We’re thrilled he’s joining out cast.”
What a cop-out. They’re bringing Spader on as a regular character, but not having him fill the mangerial role. Allowing that position to be up for grabs for the forseeable future. It’s clear that the creative minds realize what we all do, which is that the show is useless and fucked with Carell. The show had been declining in impressive increments for seasons, and with the loss of the linchpin character they’re officially adrift.
Let it die.
Let it die.
You can’t replace Mulder with Doggett, and you certainly can’t replace Michael Scott with any other jabroni.
