Am I excited for Iron Fist? Not really. Do I know if RZA is a good director? Not really (I never saw Man With The Iron Fists). But does RZA directing an episode of the aforementioned show get me excited? Yes really.

CBR:

Although a majority of the episode titles announced earlier this week for the first season of Marvel’s “Iron Fist” were accompanied by directors, a handful — episodes four, six, 10 and 12 — had no names attached. But thanks to star Finn Jones, we now know who was behind the camera for at least one of those installments of the Netflix drama: hip-hop icon RZA.

Jones, who plays Danny Rand, made the revelation Friday during a Facebook Q&A with Extra in response to a question about “Iron Fist’s” musical influences. While music didn’t play a key role on “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones,” it was a key element of “Luke Cage,” which even featured appearances by RZA’s Wu-Tang colleague Method Man. And, as Jones explained, it’s vital to “Iron Fist” as well.

He said that prior to the start of production, he compiled a full playlist full of music that he felt Danny Rand might listen to. Most of the music consisted of 1990s hip-hop, including not only A Tribe Called Quest and Jurassic 5, but also the legendary Wu-Tang Clan. It’s while discussing the inclusion of Wu-Tang that Jones (accidentally?) divulged that RZA directed Episode Six, titled “Immortal Emerges From Cave.”

“And actually, one of our episodes was directed by the RZA himself,” Jones said. “Episode Six. So yeah there’s a very close tie with hip-hop and the ‘Iron Fist’ series.” He added that it was great working with RZA, and that, as a director, he “has a really good vision of what he wants.”

RZA directed and co-wrote the 2012 martial-arts film “The Man With the Iron Fists,” which may provide fans with some idea of what to expect from his work on “Iron Fist.”
