IDRIS ELBA talked to MARVEL ABOUT PLAYING LUKE CAGE. Past Tense. But Still.
Just imagine, guys. Just imagine if Idris Elba was Luke Cage. I don’t really think it’ll happen, but fuck. Talk about bringing another heavy into the world of dope Marvel roles.
With the character Luke Cage moving to Netflix’s Marvel deal, this ship has likely sailed, but evidently “Pacific Rim” star Idris Elba was talking to Marvel about playing the Luke Cage half of the Powerman & Iron Fist duo (both of them are getting separate shows as part of the Marvel/Netflix deal).
“There was talk about Luke Cage at one time – I thought Luke Cage was a pretty interesting character,” Elba recently told The Huffington Post. “They were going to do it, but I don’t know what happened…”
Well, it’s called movie development that turned into a lateral move turned into into longform on-demand television via Netflix. As we’ve said, we think it’s a smart move. Luke Cage, Iron Man, Daredevil and Jessica Jones are more character based compared to their Thor and Hulk counterparts, and will work better in the episodic format Netflix will allow. As for rumors of Elba starring in “Jurassic Park IV” aka “Jurassic World,” he told Huffington Post they are just that: rumors. As you were.
So yeah. Seems like this ship has sailed. Imma keep the light on for his potential casting as James Bond, though. Let me dream.
