New Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer Teases Fans Some More

Just about a week ago, we got the first real look at the new Star Trek joint. As per usual, everyone on these internets went crazy for the fresh glimpse at the JJ Abrams’ film, dissecting and analyzing and investigating and doing any other word that means looking really deeply into everything about it. Understandably, of course. It’s pretty exciting stuff. And the teaser that dropped today is no different. Check it out after the jump.

I must say: I like this teaser. It’s sneakily simple. It retains a sense of mystery about things (a major selling point for any teaser, in my humble estimation), hits some classic beats and offers other sights as well, while it opens the universe and narrative up a smidge. In this case, Kirk’s character arc is brought to light (or is into darkness?) and the teaser does a solid job utilizing a voice-over that calls out Kirk’s need for some character development–a vital sense of humility to balance his bravado–over stunning visuals that surely compel the character to develop that way. If the next step on Kirk’s journey to becoming a great leader is to embrace humility, something that he doesn’t really have all that much of (at least not in the first film), then it’s going to be a tough go by the looks of things, especially if he has to deal with Cumberbatch’s villain (whoever the hell he really is) and keep his crew out of his clutches. It’s going to be tough alright, but by the looks of the teaser, it’s also going to be damn entertaining too.
