Face of a Franchise: Metal Mascot

[face of a franchise presents two individuals that’ve fulfilled the same role. your task — choose the better of the two and defend your choice in the rancor pit that is the comments section]

As everyone knows, heavy metal is a genre of music performed exclusively by Satanists in the hopes of stealing souls for the Devil. But with the religious right constantly exerting their will, it isn’t always easy provide the Dark Lord the souls he craves. Fortunately, heavy metal wised up and stole a page from Big Tobacco’s playbook by employing cartoons! Since kids can’t resist cartoons, heavy metal has been able to ensure the damnation of millions of youthful spirits!

It’s wonderful.

So, who is the most metal mascot of all-time? Well, the debate always seems to come down to two contenders: Iron Maiden’s Eddie and Megadeth’s Vic Rattlehead.

Edward the Head, better known as Eddie, has graced the cover of every single Iron Maiden studio album. Always some sort of decaying zombified-entity, Eddie’s appearance changes in accordance with the theme of the album – the dude’s been everything from an ancient Egyptian pharoah to a goddamn futuristic cyborg. In fact, Eddie’s so popular with the Maiden fans that his appearance is a fixture of their live shows and he even starred in a video game.

While not featured on every Megadeth cover, Vic Rattlehead has become a legend in his own right. A subversion of the three wise monkeys, Vic’s metal-covered skull represents the senselessness of humanity’s greed. Also a manifestation of evil, Vic has been seen selling out the world in a number of ways, from handing over Area 51’s secrets to selling the nuked-out real estate that was once the United Nations building.

So who is your metal mascot of choice? Eddie or Vic Rattlehead?
