PRIME MINISTER totally admits the government illegally bugged KIM DOTCOM

Kim Dotcom’s life continues to resemble one of bloated wonderment. The arrogant Internet maestro and source of general amusement was illegally bugged. And the prime minister is admitting it. Tremendous.

Gizmodo:

As ridiculous as Dotcom’s life may be, it seems like the government was treating and investigating the man like he was Pablo Escobar. Today, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key announced an inquiry by the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security on the illegal tapping of Kim Dotcom by the Government Communications Security Bureau (an intelligence agency in New Zealand like the CIA in the US). The GCSB is forbidden to “conduct surveillance on New Zealand citizens or permanent residents in the country”. The GCSB, of course, ignored that and bugged Dotcom.

What’s possibly more interesting is Prime Minister John Key’s role in all this. Yes, he put in the inquiry but he’s also the man who can tell the GCSB what to do, so he can be protecting himself from this messy situation. Key is either completely inept at his job (for not knowing what the GCSB was doing) or complicit in breaking the law to spy on Kim Dotcom (by allowing the GCSB to illegally bug Dotcom). Here’s Dotcom, talking about the situation, as only he can:

“I’m now a real life James Bond villain in a real life political copyright thriller scripted by Hollywood & the White House. I welcome the inquiry by [the Prime Minister] into unlawful acts by the GCSB. Please extend the inquiry to cover the entire Crown Law Mega case.”
