Buy These F**king Comics! – May 16, 2012: Mainstream Big Two Fanboys Abandon Hope, Aiight?

May 16th, 2012 by Caffeine Powered

It’s approaching midnight and I sipping liberally from a recently-cracked open two-liter of Pepsi Max. This can only mean a few things. Diablo 3  has launched, my semester is over, and I may very well be dead by the time you read this. Slouched over all fucking South Korean internet cafe Starcraft  stylee. Should I continue sucking wind into the meatier part of this Wednesday, I shall be snagging some comic books. These are the ones I’m digging on. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tolerate my stupidity and then augment my list with the titles you’re going to procure for an exorbitant sum. Especially if I don’t list your little binky title. I’m willing to riff on anything should you suggest it.

Don’t know what’s dropping? Hit up ComicList.

Marvel’s Sunday At C2E2: McKelvie On ‘DEFENDERS’ And More

April 16th, 2012 by Caffeine Powered

Marvel dropped some news yesterday at C2E2, the most glorious of which to me is the news that Jamie McKelvie is taking over as artist on Defenders.

Hit the jump for a  potpourri  of deets.

Matt Fraction and David Aja Reteaming for new MARVEL SERIES. Oh Hell Yes.

April 10th, 2012 by Caffeine Powered

I first really began to take notice of Matt Fraction during his stint on Iron Fist  with Ed Brubaker and David Aja, many moons ago. A lifetime of funny books since. Now the Fraction-Man and Aja are going to be reteaming it seems, and this has my balls aflutter.

Comics We’re Buying This Week: Event Books Ass Eating Contest

April 4th, 2012 by Caffeine Powered

With a headline like that, I better buckle up. It’s that time of the year where the Funny Book Factories begin churning out stunning efforts in mediocrity, otherwise known as Events. Yes sir. Yes ma’am. This week the all ninety-three Avengers teams are going to be throwing down with all fourteen X-Men squads and the price will be paid by readers looking for something not refried and snot-covered. (I thought this was called Civil War?)

Eh! There’s dope books a’dropping this week too. Let’s focus on that. This is Comics We’re Buying This Week. The simplistically titled column where us worshippers of the paneled page can gather around and share the funny book loot we’re snagging this week.  Don’t know what’s coming out? Hit up ComicList.

Especially if you find something not covered. Not certain what’s coming out? Hit up ComicList.

Comics We’re Buying This F**king Week: Massive Wood and Brubaker’s College Fund.

February 1st, 2012 by Caffeine Powered

Welcome to the newly minted (and perhaps not staying named as such)  Comics We’re Buying This F**king Week. Figured I’d cut the bullshit. Herein us guys and gals of the sequential funny book time can share the comic books we’re digging on in a given week. It’s a pretty exciting week, as I’m getting a new dose of Wood to engulf. Always a sucker for the Wood. (And infantile puns. It’s been a long day, forgive me.)

Dig the releases for yourself at ComicList.

Monday Morning Commute: Stay on Target

December 12th, 2011 by Rendar Frankenstein

After I punch out on December 23rd, I’m going to have the luxury of not returning to work for ten days. By my calculations, that’s nearly a week and a half. Do you know many comics will be read, movies watched, beers imbibed, and high-fives delivered in that time? Certainly enough to keep my face smile-plastered and spirit sky-bound.

Needless to say, I’m champing at the bit.

But alas, I must first survive a treacherous two-week stint of work. Additionally, these workweeks happen to fall on the end of the month, which is always the most hectic time around the `ole office. Tack on the various projects I’ve undertaken, and I’m bound to be one busy little prole-monkey rummaging about the engine room of Spaceship Earth’s compartment of Consumer-Cultures.

Fortunately, the Omnidimensional Creator has been kind enough to allow me to guide you through the MONDAY MORNING COMMUTE! Join me as I display the various bits of art and mind-rot I’ll be using to prevent a total mental meltdown. After you feast your eyes on what I’ll be entertaining myself with, hit up the comments section and share your ideas of a fun time.

Okay, hide the women and children — it’s time to summon the Entertainment Daemons!

Matt Fraction and Nathan Fox Do ‘Osama Raid’ Comic For GQ. Unexpected.

December 6th, 2011 by Caffeine Powered

Matt Fraction has teamed up with Nathan Fox and Jeremy Cox to pen a comic for GQ. That shit seems sensible enough, but things get a bit bananas when you hear the topic: the fatal OBL raid from earlier in the year.

Yeah, I wasn’t expecting it either.

Variant Covers: Thor and Odin Fight For The Hammer-Penis. The Conclusion!

October 18th, 2011 by Caffeine Powered

While I’m writing this — assuredly not while you’re reading this — I’m sitting in a desolate café room on campus cranking out this column. Thinking of tomorrow, of comic books, of narrative-image fusion. Momentary escape. Fuck I love the funny books. I love sitting here, a momentary reprieve in a ten-hour day writing about them.

This is Variant Covers.

I’m Caffeine Powered.

These are the books I’m interested in this week.
