Todd McFarlane wrapped up a length legal battle last year with Neil Gaiman, and now he’s parlaying those sour grapes into comic books commentary. If you haven’t heard, Robert ‘Walking Dead Was A Good Comic I Promise’ Kirkman is getting sued by Tony Moore who worked on the rag with him. McFarlene decided to make public some eggs of knowledge he cracked over Kirkman.
Marvel’s throwing their biggest marketing push ever behind the upcoming Avengers fight X-Men: Then They Totally Won’t Team-Up At The End To Fight The Phoenix Or Some Shit. Biggest ever!
Fucking shit, man. We should just call it Sam Humphries Wank Week here at OL. Dude is going cosmic-big on the blow-up scale. The latest news? He’s co-writing (and eventually ascending to single writer) Ultimate Comics Ultimates with Jonathan Hickman. This should answer what happens when two of my favorites collide. This is Brubaker/Fraction on Iron Fist levels of bonery.

Here at OL, the regular lead regular lives. Sometimes that sheezy gets in the way of timely column posting, and for that I hope you forgive us. Tuesday is the typical day I churn this pig out. As is evident, I did not. After getting home from a day on campus at 10:00 pm, I lived the life of a winner. Which is to say I ate a burrito, an entire bag of Sweethearts, and went to bed. A caloric nightmare.
Let’s party anyways. This is Funny Books We Snagged This Week, the column where we gather together and share our choice choices in the comic book world for a given week. Don’t know what is coming out (I suppose came out)? Visit ComicList.
Sam Humphries has been on my radar since his one-off Our Love Is Real was plugged by a wonderful OL regular. This may very well be the year the dude explodes onto the scene – fucking deservingly – with a myriad of projects. The latest announced is Higher Earth.
A survey of DC’s ‘New 52’ readership reveals that though the son of a bitch has boosted sales, it hasn’t penetrated any sort of new markets. No ladies, barely any new readers.
The comics market is withering. Maybe! Biggest January in the direct market since 2008, and now there’s news that the digital market has tripled. I find this news to be, as some are wont to say, ballin’ out of control.
If there’s one thing I need absolutely no more of, it’s a Brian Michael Bendis-powered Avengers title. Well with the movie coming out, it’s sour grapes and tough rocks in my sandwich. Lots of rocks. Making all too much corporate sense, Marvel has announced BMB will be heading up a new title in some wonderful cross-medium synergy.
The comic market experienced its best January in four fucking years. I mean, we have to be happy about this, right?
The internet is still aflame today, with news regarding Before Watchmen. Whether you’re down with it or not (goddamn you supporters! I’m looking at you, Rendar!), Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson has some pretty interesting fucking words.
