February 4th, 2013 by The Dude

Bowser

Need that perfect Valentine’s Day gift?  How about matching Bowser and Peach tattoos.  Fellas, nothing says I love you like ghosts, fireballs, and castles.  Ladies, there’s nothing that gets out fires lit like old 8-bit nostalgia.

The Dude’s High 5s: Old School RPGs

January 30th, 2013 by The Dude

The-Dudes-High-5.

I feel like I haven’t done a video game themed High 5 in forever.  For those of you who are on my XBL friend’s list, you’ve no doubt noticed me delving back into the land of Skyrim.  With other games out on the market, what has me constantly going back to the world of the Elder Scrolls?  Well, in short, I love RPGs.  They have forever been my favorite genre of game to play.  So submitted for your approval, I present my favorite old school RPGs.

(Old school will be understood to be games originally released for the SNES/Genesis and previous)

The Dude’s High 5s: Old School Cartoons

January 16th, 2013 by The Dude

The Dude's High 5.

I used to love cartoons.  What happened?  Did I grow up?  Did I turn into a fun hating ogre?  I just think that most cartoons today suck. There’s a few here and there that I love (Venture Brothers, South Park), but for the most part, I don’t like them. My friends always joke that I never had a childhood.  They make assumptions that I was always the cynical dick that I present myself as.  Well, to throw a wrench in their plans, here are my favorite 5 cartoon shows from when I was a child.

The Dude’s High 5s: Warriors of the Squared Circle

December 26th, 2012 by The Dude

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.  I spent the day in my PJs playing video games and watching crappy movies, so despite me not celebrating the holiday, my ritual didn’t change.  Over the course of the day I wondered what other institutions I put aside when growing older.  A big one for me was wrestling.  I used to be a huge fan of it.  I grew up in the Attitude era.  For the uninitiated, this was like growing up a Celtics fan in the 60’s (from 1959-1969 they won 9 championships).  I would always get offended when people would say that wrestling was fake, its not.  Like ballet, it’s choreographed, but fake?  No, the athleticism is real.  Today mixed martial arts fills the void that wrestling used to occupy in my life.  So to end my pointless ramblings here are my favorite wrestlers of all time.  CAUTION, I will be using a lot of wrestling terms.  If you don’t know what they are, feel free to look them up or ask in the comments.

The Dude’s High 5s: 1 Hit Wonders

November 21st, 2012 by The Dude

What the hell? Is it time for another musical High 5? I hate these things. Oh well, nothing to do but dive into it. Half of the songs that I love are pretty much 1 hit wonders. While these bands may have other good songs, they really only had one hit. So please spare me the defensive arguments if I touch a nerve. I understand, I too love the Sundays, Letters to Cleo, Better than Ezra, Cake, Chumbawumba, The Verve, Harvey Danger, The Toadies, Deep Blue Something, Fine Young Cannibals, Space Hog, and so on … ok, maybe not so much on the Chumbawuba. So without further adieu, may favorite 1 Hit Wonders.

The Dude’s High 5s: Dr. Seuss Tales

September 26th, 2012 by The Dude

Today we’ll discuss the works of an important man.

Someone of whom I’m a giant fan.

I am of course talking about Dr. Seuss

A genius as sure as a dozen beats a deuce.

In tribute I will try to do this in rhyme,

Something that may take some time.

So get ready, get set and let’s get on with it

Hit the jump, read my choices and maybe shoot the shit.

WEEKEND OPEN BAR: knock it off!

August 25th, 2012 by The Dude

[WEEKEND OPEN BAR: The one-stop ramble-about-anything weekend post at OL. Comment on the topic at hand. Tell us how drunk you are. Describe a comic you bought. This is your chance to bring the party.]

Mom and Dad are gone.  It’s just us.  Alone.  In the dark.  This can only mean one thing.  We have to throw a rager.  Grab the kegs and hide your sisters, it’s time to burn this mother down!

While Rendar and Caff are off to the frozen tundra of Narina or Canada, or where ever the hell they’ve gone, they’ve decided to leave their baby, OL, to us, the B-Squad.  God help us all.  It’s not all bad.  If things suck, they can scapegoat us, fire us, and have us killed for disobedience.  If things run great it’s a testament to their leadership skills and eye for talent.  Of course if we manage to shoulder the burden of entertainment for a mere 48 hours, then it proves that they are not irreplaceable and must then watch their backs.  Things have certainly taken a turn towards interesting.

The Dude’s High 5s: Sketch Comedy Skits

August 1st, 2012 by The Dude

Remember when sketch comedy was all the rage?  You don’t?  It wasn’t that long ago … ok, maybe it was the mid 90’s, but that’s what 15 years ago.  Fuck I’m old.  Well, today’s High 5 will be looking over some of my (and your) favorite skits from the various skit shows out there.
