Adam McKay, he of Anchorman, The Big Short, countless other flicks, and co-writer of Ant-Man wants to make a Silver Surfer movie. So, like, what the fuck we waiting for, Marvel Studios?

CBR:

Adam McKay, director of the new Dick Cheney-based biopic Vice and one of the screenwriters for Marvel Studios’ 2015 film Ant-Man, has revealed that another Marvel character he would love nothing more than to make a movie about is the Silver Surfer.

“Silver Surfer is the one I want to do, man,” McKay told Josh Horowitz on a recent episode of MTV’s Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I would do anything to do Silver Surfer because, visually, you could do what the Wachowskis did with Speed Racer with the Silver Surfer.”

“At the same time, there’s a great emotional story there, man, where Norrin Radd [Silver Surfer] has to make the choice to save his planet,” McKay continued. “That would be the one, but I think Fox owns the rights.”

Horowitz then informed McKay that, given how Disney is currently in the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox, Marvel Studios being able to make a Silver Surfer film may actually be a possibility in the near future.

McKay responded, “Alright, I’ll call [Fox Film chief] Emma Watts; I’ll call [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige. I think you’ve just created the Silver Surfer movie. I think after Dick Cheney and economic collapse, maybe I need a little break.”

The prospect of a Silver Surfer movie isn’t exactly unheard of. After all, the character made his big screen debut just over a decade ago in Fox’s 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Additionally, previous reports suggest writer Brian K. Vaughan (Runaways, Saga) is currently penning the script for a solo Silver Surfer film at Fox.

Given the aforementioned impending merger between Disney and Fox, however, it’s unclear how current Fox projects will be altered and whether or not the two entities would want to work on such a film together.

Nevertheless, McKay spoke highly of working with Feige on Ant-Man, explaining that he would absolutely work with Marvel again.

“I was like, ‘Kevin, I wrote this crazy thing; you probably won’t want to do it.’ And he was like, ‘Well, let me read it.’ And he read it and was like, ‘That’s awesome. We’re doing it,'” the writer shared. “He just had that sense about him.”

“Yeah, what a fun world over there; I would definitely go back there and work. That was a career highlight. And then I got a big, giant Ant-Man poster signed by Stan Lee out of it. So, basically… the end.”
