‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ dropping in 2020, according to James Gunn

I’ll forgive you if you’ve forgotten that GOTG Vol. 2 dropped last year. Compared to Spidey: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok, it was a pretty uninspired retread of the original movie. That said, Gunn is bringing the cast back to the screen in 2020, and here’s hoping it’s a bit more spicy than the second movie.

CBR:

While Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm any films beyond Phase Three, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn confirmed he’d be returning for a third installment last April. Now, with months until the fan-favorite team is set to join the Avengers in Infinity War, Gunn has reaffirmed a 2020 release date for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Details surrounding Vol. 3 are sparse, with it still unknown what happens to the Guardians in Infinity War and the still-untitled Avengers 4, however, Gunn has been very vocal about this being the last installment of this version of the team. He has also previously teased that he’s talked with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige about other stories that could spinoff of the main Guardians franchise. “When we’re talking about Guardians of the Galaxy 3, and that story, that’s a story that will lead to other stories,” he said. “It’s innate to the DNA that that’s the end of a trilogy but it’s the beginning of a whole other element of the Marvel Cosmic universe.”

While the film is still a ways off, and so little is known as to what we can expect, it’s exciting to know that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is coming (sometime) in 2020.

Next up for the Guardians is Avengers: Infinity War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. That film is set to hit theaters on May 8.
