Jon Hamm. Doing Jon Hamm things. Smoldering, posing, looking well dressed. I don’t know Good Omens, I ain’t opposed to it, and Hamm definitely excites me.

Neil Gaiman has debuted the first look at Mad Men star Jon Hamm as the Angel Gabriel in Good Omens, the upcoming adaptation from Amazon and BBC.

Based on the acclaimed 1990 fantasy novel by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, Good Omens is a comedic take on the coming of the apocalypse that centers on an attempt by the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley to short-circuit the End Times, and the Antichrist who, because of a mixup at the hospital, is a seemingly normal boy raised by English parents.

Gabriel’s role in the novel is relatively limited, but he’ll play a larger part in the six-episode limited series.

“He is everything that Aziraphale isn’t,” Gaiman, who wrote the series and serves as showrunner, said in October, when Hamm’s casting was announced. “He’s tall, good-looking, charismatic and impeccably dressed. We were fortunate that Jon Hamm was available, given that he is already all of these things without even having to act.”

Good Omens also stars David Tennant as the demon Crowley, Michael Sheen as Aziraphale, Jack Whitehall as wage clerk turned witch-hunter Newton Pulsifer, Michael McKean as witch-finder Sgt. Shadwell, and Miranda Richardson as psychic medium Madame Tracy.
