Netflix Planning Six Seasons Of ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’

voltron legendary defender six seasons

Ah, yeah! Mother! Fucker! Apparently us, unwashed and undeserving swine, are getting six seasons of Voltron: Legendary Defender. Maybe more.

io9:

Considering that Dreamworks’ new take on one of pop culture’s most beloved giant robots has had two really solid seasons so far, that’s almost certainly a very good thing.

Den of Geek reports that alongside a new range of toys based on the animated Netflix series at this past weekend’s New York Toy Fair, a poster advertising the series confirmed that Voltron: Legendary Defender will return for a 13-episode third season in September 2017. That’d be a surprisingly quick turnaround since season two aired just last month—but given that season two originally got bumped from a planned fall launch last year, there’s equally a chance the same could happen for season three. In the meantime, Netflix has plans for “additional content” from season two of the show to air in the run up to the next season.

The most interesting news beyond the season three announcement, however, is additional news that Dreamworks and Netflix are apparently committed to at least 78 episodes of the series—which, in total, would make for six seasons of Legendary Defender, a healthy show of support for series. On top of that, Netflix will also begin streaming 10 episodes of the original Voltron animated series next month with “new content added.” Den of Geek’s report says that information about what that content actually is wasn’t included—whether it’s behind-the-scenes information or even unused from the anime Voltron was based on, Beast King GoLion.

No matter which way you cut it though, it means that Netflix is dedicated to the Voltron universe for the forseeable future. We’ve reached out to Netflix for confirmation about the information given at Toy Fair, and will update this post if we hear back.
