Man, I didn’t even know the Coen Brothers were fucking with TV! But they are! And their first show? The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. I’m in. Sold.

The Verge:

Oscar-winning movie directors Joel and Ethan Coen are making the leap to the small screen, Variety reports. The duo have written and will direct a TV miniseries called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, a Western that sources tell Variety was deemed too broad in scope to tackle in one feature film.

It’s not clear yet how many episodes the miniseries will run, but Variety says that Annapurna Television — the company partnering with the Coens for the show — is planning to pursue an “innovative approach that could combine television and theatrical.” Exactly how the two mediums will be entwined is not yet known, and it’s not clear yet when the show will be premiered, nor which network or service it will appear on.

Plot details are similarly unknown, but the Coens’ script reportedly follows six connected storylines. Westerns have been fertile ground for the brothers in the past: the two directed the critically lauded True Grit remake in 2010, and won Oscars for best directors and best picture for No Country for Old Men in 2008.
